Smoke Detectors are very useful in detecting smoke or fire in buildings, and so are the important safety parameters. In this DIY session, we are going to build a Smoke Detector Circuit which not only sense the smoke in the air but also reads and displays the level of Smoke in the Air in PPM (parts per million)

Out of 4 wires in a USB Cable, two wires are for Data transfer and two wires are for Power supply. These two power supply wires in USB cable can be easily identified, generally two extreme side wires or Red & Black wires are used for Power supply.

IR Sensor basically consists a IR LED and a Photodiode.

Darkness detector is simply a LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) interfaced square wave generator. In this project the square wave generator is developed as a 555 Timer IC based ASTABLE MULTIVIBRATOR. Before going any further we must get the basic details on the LDR. The figure below shows an image of various types of LDR.

Bust out that 555 timer and use it to build your own AM radio transmitter. The circuit that is using only needs the timer chip, an NPN transistor, three caps, three resistors, and a potentiometer. It generates an amplitude modulation signal around the 600 kHz range which you will be able to pick up with any normal AM radio.
